Sherman Cahal Sherman Cahal is a historian and photographer who documents abandoned and historical properties throughout the Mid-Atlantic. From prisons to hospitals to steel mills, each abandonment or historic structure holds its own story, its own recollection of events over its lifetime. Since progress often involves removing what we had in the past and envisioning the future, many of these unique buildings are in danger of being erased from memory.

rantwaion@yahoo.com www.artbyar.comAnn Van Epps My conceptual photography is a result of a lifelong fascination with old mansions, historical sites, and decay, costumes and visual narrative; encapsulated from a vivid imagination and literature background. I also grew up in an artistic family where creating colorful masks out of papier-mache or spending hours dancing or painting was a natural occurrence.
My photography has been compared to stills of a film, where the viewer reaches out of the context of the frame and into a theatrical imitation of life. Sometimes this creates another feel that can have psychological undertones; where an image is used to reveal a hidden truth.
Inspiration comes from artists Marilyn Minter, Nan Goldin, Piplotti Rist, Robert Frank, Bosch, Matthew Barney, and William Kentridge.
